Yandex Pay Down: Drone Strike Hits Yandex Data Center

Yandex Pay stopped working for many users in Russia on the morning of October 11, 2026, after a drone attack damaged Yandex’s data center in Vladimir, according to the company’s press service. Several other Yandex services failed at the same time, and the Yandex Cloud platform switched to emergency mode.

If you are asking why Yandex Pay is not working in Russia, the short answer is that the payment app runs on Yandex’s own data center infrastructure, and that infrastructure was hit. Yandex says no one was injured and that customer funds are safe.

Yandex Pay Today: What Happened

Yandex Pay told users in its app and on its Telegram channel that engineers were working to bring the service back. The company said the app was on a “short break” and stressed that users’ money was safe.

People reporting a Yandex Pay network error today are mostly describing the same problem: they cannot log in or complete a payment. Yandex said it will not treat Split, Super Split or loan payments as overdue while the service is down, and it will not change repayment terms. Users can pay once the service returns, and the company promised to announce that in its channel.

Complaints grew through the day. According to DownDetector, Yandex Pay had about 23,000 complaints by 5 p.m. on October 11. The Russian outage tracker Sboy.rf counted more than 3,300 error reports. Users in St. Petersburg sent about 5 percent of the signals and Moscow about 4 percent, according to the 47news report.

Why Yandex Services Stopped Working in 2026

Why Yandex Services Stopped Working in 2026

The cause, as stated by Yandex, is physical damage to a data center. The company’s press service said a drone attack damaged the Vladimir facility and halted its operations. Key points so far:

  • Cause: a drone attack on the Vladimir data center, according to Yandex.
  • Casualties: none reported. Emergency services are working at the site.
  • Yandex Cloud: running in emergency mode, with unstable resources and partly unstable support channels.
  • Not yet known: how long repairs will take, how much equipment was lost, and why other Yandex sites could not take over the load.

Apps like Yandex Pay depend on servers that process logins, balances and payments. When a data center goes offline and spare capacity elsewhere is not enough, the apps that rely on it stop responding. Yandex has not said who carried out the attack.

Background: Why Yandex Pay Is So Exposed

Yandex Pay handles online and in-store payments. Users can link bank cards or the Yandex Bank digital card, earn cashback and split purchases into installments. Some users also keep savings in the app.

Its role grew after foreign payment systems left Russia. Yandex said at the time that its Pay audience had tripled, though no exact user figures are public. Usage is highest in Moscow and St. Petersburg, which fits the complaint map above.

The Vladimir incident is not the first. According to 47news, drone attacks on Yandex data centers have been reported since October 8. The first facility shut down was in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, and part of a data center in Kaluga was damaged the next day.

Other Affected Services

The outage reaches well beyond payments. Reports from Yandex and 47news point to these problems:

  • Yandex Lavka: trouble placing orders and no access to customer support.
  • Yandex Food: a technical glitch that specialists are fixing.
  • Yandex Go: disruptions in the Moscow region, including no support contact through the app. DownDetector showed about 9,800 complaints.
  • Yandex Search: about 16,000 reports of outages in a day.
  • Other Yandex products: Music, Books, Alice and Mail, according to 47news.
  • Third parties: users of Magnit, DDX Fitness, Cian and Apteka.ru reported problems, likely because they run on Yandex infrastructure.

What Comes Next

  • Yandex says technicians are restoring services around the clock. In a 13:00 update on Yandex Cloud Alerts, it said support channels were partly restored.
  • No restoration time has been given for Yandex Pay. Updates will appear in its Telegram channel.
  • Yandex Cloud continues in limited mode, and the company urges customers to consider alternative platforms for hosting and backups.
  • Given the attacks reported since October 8, further disruption cannot be ruled out. Yandex has not commented on that risk.

What Users Should Do

  • Do not panic. Yandex states that funds held in Yandex Pay are safe.
  • Keep another payment method on hand, such as a bank card from a different provider or cash.
  • Check only the official Yandex Pay channel for restoration news. Be wary of messages asking for card details or logins.
  • If you use Split or a Yandex loan, wait for the service to return. Yandex says it will not count the delay as an overdue payment.
  • Businesses on Yandex Cloud should activate their own backup and recovery plans now, as Yandex advised.

The Bigger Picture

This outage shows how much daily life in Russia now runs through a few large domestic platforms. After foreign payment systems left, services like Yandex Pay took on work that was once spread across many providers. That makes a single damaged facility felt in payments, delivery, rides, search and third-party apps at once. Yandex’s own advice to cloud customers to look at alternative platforms is a notable admission that its recovery may take time. The key questions are how fast services return and whether Yandex can protect other sites after repeated reported strikes.
